A Contrarian Call That Proved Right
Precision Private Investments approached us while evaluating a management buyout of a broadcast sector business. Rather than commissioning a large consulting firm's report as a first step, they engaged us for an initial market and business assessment - grounded in direct conversations with the people who knew the business and market best.
The engagement worked. It gave Precision the market context they needed at a fraction of the cost of a traditional report, and gave the management team a useful reference point of their own.
We've since worked with Precision on two further evaluations. The first led to investment. The second - a larger, more significant deal - is where our approach was tested most directly. Precision also brought in a larger consulting firm for that one, whose data-driven report supported going ahead. Our view differed: we believed the business had been run lean in a way that created a stronger narrative than the underlying fundamentals justified, leading to an inflated valuation.
On the strength of our track record, Precision backed our read over the larger firm's. They passed on the deal. It later proved to be the right call.
